Back When We Were Kids

Back then
We still had our stainlessness
Eliciting from adults tenderness
All our needs and demands
Seen into by our guardians

But then
We had rights to naughtiness
Engaging in pranks and silliness
All the way to that nook
Where we called school

And then
Truants we became with oftenness
With the slightest convenience
Stoning the mad man’s roof
And the gentleman’s fruits

Maybe then
If we spent our limitless liveliness
On copying others’ childness
We’d be considered good
And dull as them

After all
Kids will always be kids
And do what kids do best
Get dirty and naughty
Or do you think otherwise?
